Latino Review was in attendance Friday as Sony released the first footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

There are spoilers at the bottom of the post.

What did we see?

We saw unfinished footage of the film.

We also listened to the panel which included director Marc Webb, Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan.

What’s In the Footage?

-We saw Electro flexing his powers and we also saw how he is transformed from Max Dillon.

-As Electro, the villain levitates and levels entire buildings with electric powers.

-Electro gets his powers after falling into a tub of electric eels.

-Spider-Man is enjoying his life as Spider-Man and punking Paul Giamatti’s character Aleksei Sytsevich.

-Giamatti’s character DID NOT appear as THE RHINO in the footage.

Takeaways from the Panel

Jaime Foxx talked about how his character Max Dillon is transformed into someone who wants to burn down the city and “burn Spider-Man along with it.”

One attendee at the panel asked Marc Webb whether he was including too many new characters in the film with Electro, Rhino and the Osborns. He added that he “didn’t want another Spider-Man 3.”

In response, Webb said that the main villain is Electro and that he will sustain the depth and the breadth of the film.

Spoilers:

-Foxx explained that Dillon is betrayed by three things: love, family and work. Foxx said his Dillon was once married (though it is not shown in the film) but that his wife left him. In the film, Foxx’s mother betrays him by forgetting his birthday.

-While describing why Electro was such a powerful foe for Spider-Man, Webb accidentally blurted out something about Electro that hadn’t been mentioned before. Webb explained that Electro was difficult to fight because he could disappear into a socket and then reappear with more power somewhere else.
